Milk alternatives are considered healthy and have a much lower environmental impact than dairy products.
Oat drinks are more sustainable
Many buy oat drinks also because they are more sustainable than milk. Studies confirm that oat drinks cause around 70 percent less harmful greenhouse gases than cow’s milk. Oat drinks also perform better in terms of water consumption than those made from cow’s milk. For example, the production of one litre of oat milk consumes on average around 3.4 litres, while cow’s milk requires around 250 litres for each litre of cow’s milk.
Trend continues
No milk alternative currently has more fans than oat drinks. Over 34 million litres were consumed in 2018, which is double the amount consumed in 2016.
The quality of the oat drinks in the Stiftung-Warenttest test is remarkable. None of the products scored worse than satisfactory. But only three products are top in terms of taste. Seven products are enriched with calcium.
